Google Summer of Code 2007: GNOME posters

Máirín created an awesome poster to let students know that they can apply to work on GNOME for the Google Summer of Code 2007.

The goal is to put it in as many universities/colleges as possible. And Ryan started a list of universities with known contacts who will post the poster where it makes sense, or distribute it as a flyer. Feel free to add yourself as a contact for your university!

Did I mention that the poster is translated to various languages?

Arabic, Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Korean, Macedonian and Spanish versions are available now. I'm sure more languages will come. If you translate it, make sure to add links to the files to the wiki page.

Any chance of a localised version for the southern hemisphere (where it would be more properly called Winter of Code if it wasn't for branding)?

Mary: that's an issue we (GNOME) can't fix: this would need to be done at the Google level. If we called it Winter of Code and Google still called it Summer of Code, this would be confusing.

I understand that it's an issue, though.

Do you only want "computer science" students? There have been a lot of successful students in SoC, myself included, who don't fall into this category. You might be putting potential applicants off.

Do you have any problem with people using this flyer as a basis for SoC promotion of other projects? The flyer seems quite impressively done, and I'd love to edit it somewhat for my university as a mentoring organization.

You've translated the text, but you might want to translate the picture: your young man and woman look Northern European. They don't look Arabic, Greek, Korean, Macedonian or Spanish.

Michael: I believe people will understand that it's about computer science and not about being a computer science student. It's a quick way to know what the poster is about. I hope student who could apply for SoC but are not studying computer science won't be put off by this (and I think they won't). That's a good point to keep in memory for future posters, though.

Anonymous: Máirín is okay, so feel free to do so :-)

Joe: that's true (well, I don't think they look Northern European, but they certainly don't look Japanese). I'm not sure this is a real problem, though. But another good point for future posters. Localization is hard.
